Q.Why does The Hanover need my non-public, personal information?

The Hanover needs your non-public, personal information in order to provide you quality products and services.

Q. What is meant by “non-public”?

“Non-public” means any personally identifiable information, whether financial or health, that is not publicly available.

Q. What information does The Hanover collect?

Depending on the types of products or services The Hanover is providing to you, the information may include, but is not limited to, your name, address, social security number, credit information, driving record, and health information.

Q. Where does The Hanover get the non-public, personal information about me?

The Hanover may get information directly from you or from affiliated companies, non-affiliated third parties, consumer reporting agencies, medical providers, and third parties, such as the Medical Information Bureau (MIB).


Q. Who are “non-affiliated third parties”?

“Non-affiliated third parties” are companies and agencies that are not affiliates of The Hanover, such as consumer reporting agencies, medical providers, and the Medical Information Bureau (MIB).

Q. Is there any other information The Hanover may obtain?

Depending on product or service needs, The Hanover may obtain a consumer report, which may contain information, such as character and general reputation, manner in which you live, credit history, driving record, and/or appraisal of your home or place of business.

Q. Does The Hanover give out my non-public, personal information to others?

In order to conduct business, The Hanover may disclose your information to its affiliates or to third parties, which process and service your account for us. The Hanover may also share your non-public, personal information with law enforcement agencies, reinsurance companies, and others as permitted by law.

Q. Does The Hanover give my non-public, personal information to non-affiliated companies for marketing purposes?

The Hanover will not share information with non-affiliated third parties that would use the information to market products or services to you.

Q. What does The Hanover do to protect my non-public, personal information? Can unauthorized personnel access my information?

The Hanover maintains physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect customer non-public, personal information? 

Q. Who sees my non-public, personal information at The Hanover?

Only authorized personnel who assist the The Hanover companies in providing you with products and services have access to your personal, nonpublic information.

Q. How can I find out what information The Hanover has obtained about me?

  • To find to whom The Hanover disclosed your information within the two years, prior to your request.  Note: If there isn't a record indicating information was provided to another party, The Hanover will inform you to whom such information is normally disclosed.

Important:

Please be aware that The Hanover cannot share certain information with you. This may include:

  • information collected in order for The Hanover to evaluate a claim under an insurance policy, when the possibility of a lawsuit exists;
  • medical information that The Hanover would have to forward to a licensed medical doctor of your choosing, so that it may be properly explained.

Q. What if the information on a report or in my file is incorrect?

If, after reviewing your file, you believe information is incorrect, please write to the consumer reporting agency or to The Hanover - whichever is applicable.  Be sure to state your position in your communication.  The Hanover will investigate the information in question.  If appropriate, corrections will be made to your file and the parties to whom the incorrect information was disclosed, if any, will be notified. 

However, if the investigation substantiates the information in the file, you will be notified of the reasons why the file will not be changed.  If you are not satisfied with the evaluation, you have the right to place a statement in the file explaining why you believe the information is incorrect.  Also, The Hanover will send a copy of your statement to the parties, if any, to whom The Hanover previously disclosed the information and include it in any future disclosures.
