Michigan auto reform policy renewals

Beginning July 2, 2020, Michigan's auto insurance reform allowed drivers to select the level of personal injury protection (PIP) and bodily injury (BI) coverage that meets their needs.

Now that many drivers have made their initial reform coverage selections, it will soon be time for renewals. As your policy comes up for renewal, we'll send you information about keeping your existing coverage or selecting new coverage.

Did you know?

$500,000 of PIP medical coverage per person covers 99% of claims.

If you chose certain PIP and BI coverage limits or opted out of PIP, you may need to submit documentation to keep your selected coverage level. We've made it easy for you to complete recertification and renew your coverage using Citizens Auto Reform Assistant (CARA) when your policy is eligible for renewal.

I'm happy with my coverage

If you want to keep your current coverage, you may still need to provide documents to certify your eligibility for certain selections. When it's time to renew, CARA will tell you if you need to re-certify your coverage and help you submit documentation in a few easy steps.

I want to change my coverage

At renewal, you will have the option to update your PIP and BI coverages. You may do so through your independent agent.

If you are required to recertify, you can also choose new coverage limits through CARA.
